CRISPR-Cas9, a technique recently developed to edit specific gene sequences in DNA, can also be used for visualizing genomic elements in living cells. This technique, which is being developed by Bo Huang’s lab at the University of California, San Francisco, can help determine how chromosomes are organized, and see how the genome rearranges itself when the DNA repairs itself or genes are recombined, among other things.
