Richard E. Miller holds the position of Professor of English at Rutgers University. Apart from his notable work, “As if Learning Mattered,” he has authored several impactful books, including “On the End of Privacy: Learning to Read, Write, and Think in the 21st Century,” “Habits of the Creative Mind” (co-authored with Ann Jurecic), and “Writing at the End of the World.” With a career spanning 29 years at Rutgers, Miller commenced as a writing teacher, transitioned into administrative roles, returned to the classroom specializing in large Gen Ed lecture courses, and currently dedicates his focus to teaching creative thinking and imaginative reading.

Miller has shared his expertise through over one hundred invited talks, addressing audiences both nationally and internationally on topics related to literacy, technology, and higher education. Recognizing his significant contributions, he was honored with the Chancellor-Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2022 at Rutgers. This prestigious award acknowledges a faculty member in the New Brunswick campus whose teaching has had an extraordinary impact on the institution, students’ experiences, and public engagement.

Currently engaged in writing a work of creative nonfiction titled “On Becoming a Writer,” Richard E. Miller’s multifaceted career reflects his dedication to teaching and his influential role in the academic community.
