This book contains extended version of selected works that have been discussed and presented in the fourth International Doctoral Symposium on Applied Computation and Security Systems (ACSS 2017) held in Patna, India during March 17-19, 2017. The symposium was organized by the Departments of Computer Science & Engineering and A. K. Choudhury School of Information Technology, both from University of Calcutta in collaboration with NIT, Patna. The International partners for ACSS 2016 had been Ca Foscari University of Venice, Italy and Bialystok University of Technology, Poland.
Advanced Computing and Systems for Security
This bi-volume book has a total of 21 papers divided in 7 chapters. The chapters reflect the sessions in which the works have been discussed during the symposium. The different chapters in the book include works on biometrics, image processing, pattern recognition, algorithms, cloud computing, wireless sensor networks and security systems.

Microalgal Hydrogen Production
Hydrogen could be the fuel of the future. Some microorganisms can produce hydrogen upon illumination. Biological methods of production could be greener than chemical or physical production methods, but the potential of biological methods is still being harnessed. This comprehensive book highlights the key steps necessary for future exploitation of solar-light-driven hydrogen production by microalgae.

Chemistry and Chemical Technologies in Waste Valorization
Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.

NMR in Glycoscience and Glycotechnology
NMR techniques although well established for structural analyses of proteins and nucleic acids, cannot be simply applied to this complex class of biomolecules. Nonetheless, recently developed NMR techniques for carbohydrates open the door to conformational studies of a variety of sugar chains of biological interest. NMR studies on glycans will have significant impact on the development of vaccines, adjuvants, therapeutics, biomarkers and on biomass regeneration.

Essentials Statistics : Exploring the World through Data 2nd Ed
We live in a data-driven world, and the goal of this text is to teach students how to access and analyse these data critically. Authors Rob Gould, Colleen Ryan, and Rebecca Wong want students to develop a ‘data habit of mind’ because learning statistics is an essential life skill that extends beyond the classroom. Regardless of their math backgrounds, students will learn how to think about data and how to reason using data. With a clear, unintimidating writing style and carefully chosen pedagogy, this text makes data analysis accessible to all students.

Free-Radical Synthesis and Functionalization of Heterocycles
The venerable Minisci reaction allows for direct access to functionalized heterocycles. This process has lately seen an interesting renaissance and is discussed in this volume. Addition of heteroatom-centered radicals onto unsaturated systems constitutes another powerful method to construct heterocycles. Examples of such a strategy are proposed along with the formation of various heterocycles relying on homolytic substitution at sulfur, phosphorus and selenium. Additionally free-radical functionalization of reactive functional groups including isonitriles, isothiocyanates and related unsaturated systems which offer a straightforward route towards useful aromatic and non-aromatic heterocycles are discussed.
